As the Director of Product Marketing and Catherine’s former manager, I am very pleased to recommend Catherine. I directly managed Catherine for 6 months, and after that continued managing her via my direct report, the Head of Merchandising & Promotions. Catherine has been a key player on the Product Marketing and Merchandising team, and her skills and leadership qualities would make her an invaluable addition to any team.

Catherine’s has a keen sense of understanding the customer journey and is successful in using data and analytics to build relevant site campaigns and promotions. As an example, Catherine recently drove an initiative called “Customer Centric Product Descriptions” where we sought to better understand the critical customer information required to allow a customer to make a booking. Catherine led the working group in classifying critical vs. incremental information, pulled together an analysis of prevalence of instances of missing data in our assortment and projected this onto the entire population of over 50K items. As with any strategic project, this one had moments of ambiguity and changes in direction as more data was uncovered and Catherine was able to successfully navigate all those instances. The end result is that this knowledge is helping the Editorial Team and the Product Team establish better processes when creating content for the site, understand strategic prioritizations for must-get information and ultimately driving conversion by providing customer’s the right information at a critical juncture in their shopping journey.

Catherine also demonstrates personal qualities that make her well-suited to leadership. She has naturally fallen into the role of “point person” that many of us go to with questions regarding historical campaign knowledge, tool training and technical site performance. She constantly works to share as much information with the team as possible by improving working documents and by creating training documents. Catherine was instrumental in helping the Product team to build our in-house promotions tool, and also created a solid “how-to” document and trained users across 3 offices on the appropriate steps to take when using the tool. As a manager, Catherine inspires her team to be the best they can be, and encourages them to follow their passions. When one of her direct reports expressed interest in a career change, she encouraged that person to follow the best possible job path within the company, even if it meant losing that person to another team.

Additionally, Catherine is an asset on the technical front. She has a facility for translating technical information into terms the Product Marketing team can relate to. This, coupled with her attention to detail in technical issues, makes her a strong member of any product team.

As my direct marketing contact, Catherine has played an integral part in developing the fast-growing APAC region. As APAC marketing lead, Catherine has brought onboard a great team, mentored and trained them well. She along with her team have driven some result-oriented internal campaigns. We collaborated on many analytics projects ranging from ad-hoc report/dashboard creation to analytical tool training to QAing our internal databases. Catherine is quite comfortable using our analytics tools (OLAP cube, Tableau, Adobe Analytics) to mine data relevant to her merchandising goals.
 
She is very pro-active and standardized her workflows in order to help her team more efficiently use our analytics systems. She has a strong knowledge of Adobe Analytics, Tableau and OLAP Cubes (e.g., pivot tables), and is comfortable working in these tools every day.
